Alex (portrayed by Michael B. Jordan) is Haddie Braverman's boyfriend during Season 2 and 3. He is also the manager of a local soup kitchen in Berkeley.

Alex first met Haddie after being introduced to each other at the local soup kitchen in Berkeley by Camille Braverman, Haddie's grandmother, who volunteers there a bit.
Alex was born into a broken home. His father is portrayed and told as being a hard alcoholic in the series when he then runs away from his abusive home and now full-time lives alone. We learn after Adam invites Alex to dinner at their home, he was emancipated at the age of 16, which is the same age that Haddie is when they were first introduced to each other. He became a legal adult at 16, and has been living like one ever since.
We learned that Alex is a recovering alcoholic in AA, and is working at the soup kitchen because it has helped save his life with getting a few meals from here and there to survive. He has been clean for 16 months when we first meet him in season 2, episode 11, Damage Control.
